COLLABORATIVE PROJECTS

Summary

The documentary focuses on the art of cosplay. A pop culture art form in which people of all ages and backgrounds portray a style based on fictional characters from pop culture media like anime, science fiction, television, movies, and comics.

The project, pending via  post production is composed of a film, case study, and written thesis. The film will dive into the passion, interactivity, and perspective on costuming, while exploring varieties of social complexities such as self-identity; delving into the insight of the cultural structure and the stories behind why people invest so much into the activity that is continually growing throughout the world.

The case study follows six people with different skill sets and varying degrees of cosplay knowledge as they collaborate as a group to complete a series of cosplays with the intentions of competing at a convention.

The written thesis will be the published academic account of both the film and case study, providing insights to those who do not understand the culture and to those that do. The elements of this project will connect with students, parents, and the community to help understand this medium of creativity, social communication, and the discovery of the self.
